Lead Engineer, Dimensional Metrology & Gaging

A day in this role
You start your morning syncing with plant Quality and Engineering contacts, aligning on gage readiness for upcoming builds. Before lunch, you review a supplier’s fixture concept, ensuring it meets customer standards and internal quality criteria. Your afternoon is split between updating program timing in the corporate Prolink tooltab, approving a functional gage design change, and troubleshooting a stubborn measurement system issue on a prototype line. By day’s end, you’ve advanced deliverables toward PPAP and prepared a quote strategy for a new RFQ—then documented SQC/SPC updates to keep everything audit-ready.

- Oversee gage design to ensure effective measurement techniques aligned with corporate specifications and applicable industry standards.
- Evaluate gage designs/builds for setup simplicity, certification, calibration, check methods, and repair in line with corporate gage standards.
- Support projects involving functional gages and inspection systems across service, prototype, and pilot builds.
- Approve component and assembly fixtures that meet plant operations and inspection method needs per customer standards.
- Deliver results in a collaborative environment; create timelines and deliverable lists to hit time and quality objectives.
- Review supplier quotes (cost, timing, delivery), write POs, set budgets, and develop a supplier base that meets cost and quality targets.
- Partner with PDTs and engineering teams to resolve component print issues.
- Contribute to documentation updates (SQC, SPC, etc.) to support functional gages.
- Hold approval authority for functional gage design changes and assist with dispositions for failed calibrations and R&Rs.

- Lead gage quotation efforts for new customer program RFQs.
- Support FTF (fast track fixtures) leveraging 3D-printed details where appropriate.
