GTAW Pipe & Structural Welder

GTAW Pipe & Structural Welder

Imagine a workday where you prep your station, choose the right tungsten and filler, dial in the amperage, and then lay down clean, consistent beads on stainless and carbon components—pipe in the morning, structural frames after lunch, and precision assemblies before clocking out. If that sounds like your ideal day, you’ll thrive here.

What you’ll do

  • Execute GTAW/TIG welds on stainless and carbon steel pipe, tubing, machinery, and fabricated assemblies.
  • Apply FCAW/Flux Core processes when required across fabrication and manufacturing tasks.
  • Weld confidently in flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead, and 6G positions.
  • Set up TIG and Flux Core equipment: select amperage, wire/filler, tungsten, shielding gas, and technique for each job.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, tolerances, and written specs.
  • Fit, align, position, and tack parts prior to welding; perform pipe and structural fabrication per drawings.
  • Use precision layout tools—calipers, tapes, squares, levels, and straightedges—for accurate measurement.
  • Control heat input to reduce warping, distortion, and other weld defects; grind, clean, prep, and finish as needed.
  • Inspect welds for appearance, penetration, defects, and spec compliance; meet quality and production targets.
  • Operate common fabrication hand/power tools and keep equipment maintained; report issues promptly.
  • Keep your work area organized and safe while following all safety procedures.
  • Work independently and coordinate with leads and teammates to stay on schedule.

What you bring

  • 3–5 years of professional TIG/GTAW experience.
  • Hands-on TIG background with both stainless and carbon steel.
  • Flux Core (FCAW) welding experience is required.
  • Background welding pipe and/or fabricated metal components, including 6G capability.
  • Comfort reading blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings.
  • Experience with fitting, fabrication, layout, and assembly work.
  • Understanding of specs, dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Proficiency with welding equipment, hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring devices.
  • Detail-oriented mindset and pride in producing high-quality welds.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving; able to work solo and as part of a production team.
  • Willingness to work overtime or occasional weekends when needed.

Mandatory weld assessments

To be considered, you must successfully pass both TIG weld tests:

  • 2-inch Schedule 160 carbon steel pipe – TIG, 6G position
  • ¼-inch Schedule 80 carbon steel pipe – TIG, 6G position

Preferred experience

  • TIG on 304/316 stainless steel and thin-gauge stainless.
  • Carbon steel pipe welding; FCAW familiarity beyond the basics.
  • MIG/GMAW in addition to TIG and Flux Core.
  • Sanitary, food-grade, industrial, or precision fabrication.
  • Pipe fitting and fabrication.
  • Industrial/manufacturing welding environments; working from detailed fabrication drawings and specs.

Physical demands & work environment

  • Stand for extended periods while performing welding and fabrication.
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and working in varied positions.
  • Manufacturing setting with moderate to high noise.
  • Frequently lift and/or move materials up to 60 pounds.
  • Work safely around welding equipment, machinery, metal, sparks, heat, and fumes.
  • Proper PPE and adherence to all safety procedures are required.
