Location & Schedule
- Site: Onsite, union position at Gardner Denver Thomas — 1419 Illinois Ave., Sheboygan, WI 53081
- Shift: 3rd Shift, Monday–Friday (11:00 pm–7:00 am)
Your Mission
- Operate furnaces to melt aluminum ingots and scrap for die‑casting operations.
- Control furnace temperatures and charge with the specified mix; verify melt readiness.
- Deliver molten metal in accurate amounts and proportions to die‑cast machines; coordinate distribution on a defined schedule to maintain the central melt temperature.
- Cool down furnaces when required; inspect refractory linings and distribution ladles for cracks or defects; assist with repairs as directed.
- Handle materials safely, including lift‑truck operations.
- Set up die‑cast cells as needed—ladle, auto‑spray, robotics, trim presses; remove/replace dies and make appropriate machine adjustments.
- Safeguard coworkers while filling ladles, driving lift trucks, and pouring metal into furnaces during machine setup.
- Provide relief coverage for the primary Furnace Tender.
Credentials That Count
- High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma preferred.
- 1+ years of forklift experience with an active license.
What Sets You Apart
- At least 1 year of demonstrated furnace operation knowledge (cleaning, running, maintaining).
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions under general supervision; seeks guidance for unusual procedures or irregularities.
- Experience in a die‑cast environment required before hire or appointment to this position.
Environment, Tools, and Safety
- Expect heat, dirt, grease, and fumes; noise may exceed 85 dB (hearing protection required above 85 dB).
- Physical demands: lift/push/pull/carry 5 lbs constantly, 35 lbs frequently, 75 lbs occasionally.
- Frequent postures: sitting, standing, kneeling, climbing, bending, stooping.
- Tools/equipment include lift trucks (power or hand), shovels, furnace‑cleaning, skimming and fluxing tools, hand tools, hoists, and required PPE.
- Hazards: serious cuts, burns, bruises, and potential permanent injury; goggles and heavy gloves are required—cautious work practices minimize risk.
