Founding AI Evidence Engineer

About the Role

Join an early-stage healthtech company building the evidence infrastructure layer for safety-critical AI. The core problem: regulated AI vendors spend significant time and money assembling proof that their models are safe and effective — for regulators, buyers, and payers — and repeat the process with every major model update. This company is making evidence generation continuous instead of reactive, starting with diagnostic medical imaging.

As a founding engineer, you'll work directly with customers preparing FDA submissions, running investigations on their models and data, and turning that work into reusable methodologies that become the product itself. It's a rare role where deep technical skill and pragmatism translate into outsized real-world impact.

What You'll Do

• Partner with medical imaging companies preparing FDA 510(k) or De Novo submissions, and with hospitals evaluating imaging AI models.
• Translate vague customer questions into concrete investigations, executed in one- to two-week cycles, surfacing failure modes, edge cases, and distribution drift.
• Produce evidence that feeds development decisions, regulatory go/no-go calls, and hospital governance conversations.
• Codify recurring workflows into reusable methodologies, pipelines, and evaluation frameworks that evolve into core product capabilities.
• Help shape how engagements are run as the team scales — cadences, quality standards, and early hiring.

What We're Looking For

• Empirical ML depth: You've designed investigations, analyzed failure cases, and reasoned about distribution shift and uncertainty in real deployed systems.
• Infrastructure mindset: You've turned one-off analysis work into reusable pipelines, internal tools, or evaluation frameworks.
• Python fluency: Comfortable working end-to-end from raw data to defensible, well-documented conclusions.
• Background from companies like medical imaging AI vendors, clinical AI evaluation teams, or rigorous applied ML environments is a strong signal.
• Visa sponsorship is available.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $150,000 – $230,000 USD annually
• Early-stage equity opportunity as a founding team member

Location

On-site in the San Francisco Bay Area (Sunnyvale, CA). Candidates based in or willing to relocate to the Bay Area are preferred.
