Industrial Pipefitting Maintenance Journeyperson

Industrial Pipefitting Maintenance Journeyperson

At General Motors’ Wentzville Assembly, your craft keeps production moving. Picture your day starting with a safety huddle, then moving across the plant floor to inspect a coolant header, re-pack a valve, and blueprint a piping reroute that helps a robotic cell run smoother. Before the shift ends, you might rig and lift a pump skid, turn parts on a lathe to exact tolerances, and verify alignment on a high-speed CNC spindle. If this sounds like your kind of challenge, you’ll feel at home here.

What you will do

  • Champion safety: strictly follow OSHA standards and GM procedures in every task.
  • Maintain, rebuild, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial equipment, including bearings, seals, motors, generators, compressors, engines, pumps, cylinders, gears, couplings, linkages, ball screws, CNC spindles, coolant/filtration systems, and combustion assemblies/valves.
  • Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair plant piping systems for process and utilities.
  • Use hand and power tools to measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, solder, assemble, join, and install pipe, valves, and fittings.
  • Interpret mechanical and assembly blueprints for conveyors, material handling, robotics, and other automation.
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, vertical lifts, and cranes.
  • Plan safe rigging operations by determining accurate load requirements.
  • Set up and run conventional and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders) to achieve specified dimensions and finishes.
  • Fabricate punches, specialty tools, steel-rule tools, and T-sets to precise specifications.
  • Plan fabrication steps using blueprints, sketches, or models to build tools or assemblies efficiently.
  • Check finished work with precision instruments (calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, dial indicators) to confirm tolerances and ensure defect-free parts.

Preferred experience

  • Implementation of planned maintenance programs and use of predictive technologies.
  • Hands-on exposure to industrial robotics, automation, and conveyance systems.

Qualifications

  • Six (6) or more years of relevant Mechanical trade (Pipefitter) experience or a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in a Mechanical trade (Pipefitter).
