Construction Scheduling & Project Controls Engineer

Construction Scheduling & Project Controls Engineer

A challenge for builders of plans

Imagine a utility conflict is discovered on a roadway reconstruction job. The milestone is at risk. You open Primavera P6, craft a fragnet, run a Time Impact Analysis, and model recovery options. You brief the Project Manager on critical path movement, float erosion, and the sequence that gets the team back on track—backed by quantities, production rates, and a revised look‑ahead. If that sounds like your kind of challenge, you’ll thrive here.

Role mission

Turn contracts and drawings into dependable CPM schedules for heavy civil work—underground utilities, streets and roadways, and bridges—then keep those schedules current, insightful, and actionable.

Core responsibilities

  • Build baseline CPM schedules in P6 in coordination with Project Managers, Estimating, and Operations leadership.
  • Translate plans, specifications, bids, contracts, and scheduling clauses into robust schedule structure and field‑realistic sequencing.
  • Develop calendars, WBS, activities, logic ties, durations, milestones, constraints, and coding standards in Primavera P6.
  • Fold in contractual milestones; procurement, submittals, utility coordination, traffic control, testing, and closeout requirements.
  • Continuously update schedules to reflect progress, resequencing, change orders, and impacts; issue revisions and recovery paths.
  • Run what‑if scenarios to assess alternatives and recommend time‑recovery strategies.
  • Detect and communicate changes to critical path, float, activity sequences, and milestone dates to stakeholders.
  • Integrate estimating data—budgets, quantities, production rates—into baselines and short‑interval plans to track plan vs. actual.
  • Identify early slippage, constraints, and schedule risks; supply timely information for decision‑making.
  • Prepare TIAs, fragnets, and schedule exhibits for delays, changes, differing site conditions, utility conflicts, and change orders.
  • Advance standardized scheduling practices, templates, reporting, and project controls processes across Core Operations.
  • Present findings, risk trends, and recommendations to PMs, the Division Manager, and Leadership; maintain complete schedule records.
  • Undertake other related duties as assigned.

Experience & qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • 3–5 years in construction scheduling or project controls, preferably on heavy civil, roadway, utility, bridge, or infrastructure projects.
  • Advanced Primavera P6 user who can independently create complete CPM baselines from project documentation.
  • Strong grasp of heavy civil means, methods, and sequencing—particularly utilities, streets/roadways, and bridges.
  • Proficient reading and interpreting plans, specifications, contracts, bids, project budgets, and contractual scheduling requirements.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency; Microsoft Project and other project controls or construction‑management platforms preferred.

Working conditions

Expect extended seated computer work along with periods of standing and walking; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. You’ll frequently use office equipment requiring fine motor skills. The role includes outdoor site visits and stakeholder interaction; sufficient mobility and stamina are required to attend meetings and navigate construction environments.

Benefits you can count on

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision
  • Company‑paid basic dental, life, and short‑/long‑term disability
  • Optional life, accident, critical illness, and pet insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Quarterly bonus program
  • PTO, paid holidays, and a paid winter company break (eligible roles)
  • EAP and wellness resources
  • Tuition reimbursement and continuing education support
  • Dependent scholarship program (eligible employees)
