Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

Join a Series A cold-chain risk-management platform operating at the intersection of IoT, logistics, and data engineering. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be a key individual contributor building the distributed systems that contextualize real-time shipment data for pharmaceutical and perishable goods logistics. This is a high-leverage role on a small, focused team — your work ships fast and directly impacts product outcomes for global logistics customers.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build backend services powering a logistics orchestration and decision-intelligence platform
  • Own data-heavy distributed systems that ingest, process, and contextualize IoT monitoring data to quantify shipment risk in real time
  • Build predictive systems for on-time, in-full (OTIF) delivery and automate exception-handling workflows
  • Develop and maintain ETL pipelines, APIs (REST and/or gRPC), and event-driven architectures
  • Operate services on cloud infrastructure with a strong focus on reliability, observability, and scalability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product and leadership to translate domain requirements into robust software architecture

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 5–15 years of backend engineering experience with a focus on scalable, data-heavy distributed systems
  • Proficiency in at least one modern backend language: Python, Java, Go, or Rust
  • Experience with IoT data ingestion, processing, and contextualization
  • Solid background in event-driven architectures and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and ETL pipelines
  • Hands-on experience deploying and operating services on AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Proficiency with containerization and orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Strong engineering practices: testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and observability
  • Domain knowledge in logistics, cold chain, or shipment risk
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Eligibility to work in the United States (visa sponsorship available)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience at logistics-tech companies or supply-chain integration platforms
  • Familiarity with data security, privacy, and regulatory requirements in pharma or cold-chain domains
  • Growth-stage startup experience alongside a structured engineering background

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $130,000 – $160,000 USD annually
  • Equity participation
  • Cash bonus
  • Visa sponsorship available
