Senior CNC Process Engineer, Advanced Polymers

Day-in-the-Life at Atlas Fibre (Northbrook, IL)

You start your morning on the shop floor, reviewing overnight part runs on our Fanuc and Okuma VMCs. A machinist flags a fixturing challenge on a composite part—together you diagnose the issue, adjust the workholding concept, and update a Mastercam program to stabilize the cycle. By mid-day, you’re running a quick capability study, documenting GD&T-critical features, and finalizing setup sheets for a new NPI job transitioning into production. You wrap up by aligning with Quality and Operations on corrective actions and planning out the next wave of continuous improvements.

  • Provide daily, hands-on engineering support to a fast-paced machining operation
  • Troubleshoot machining, quality, tooling, fixturing, and process issues to keep work flowing
  • Develop and refine machining processes for composite and high-performance plastic components
  • Create and optimize CNC toolpaths/programs in Mastercam
  • Design and implement effective workholding and fixtures
  • Lead root-cause investigations and implement durable corrective actions
  • Collaborate closely with machinists, programmers, quality, and leadership to elevate performance
