Automotive QMS Compliance Technician

About the role

You arrive on the floor just before the first parts roll off the line. You verify the first-piece against print using precision measurement, confirm gauges are set and instructions are being followed, and clear production to run. As shifts progress, you audit processes, partner with operators on proper instrument use, and step into customer-facing problem solving when needed. You keep our Quality Management System (QMS) compliant with customer standards and lead corrective steps whenever gaps appear.

What you will do

  • Perform dimensional checks on production parts; execute first/last piece approvals; conduct audits aligned to the quality system.
  • Coach production teams on correct use of measurement tools at the line.
  • Ensure inspection instructions are understood and consistently applied on the production floor.
  • Contribute to the design and rollout of new or improved quality systems.
  • Run special studies to investigate quality performance and variation.
  • Support root-cause resolution of customer quality issues on-site when required.
  • Prepare clear, data-backed reports for customer review.
  • Communicate dimensional concerns to toolroom, engineering, and manufacturing to drive action.
  • Maintain a tidy, organized workspace at all times.
  • Deliver and support training for Quality and Operations on standards, processes, and customer-required ways of working.
  • Assist Quality leadership with recurring tasks (e.g., time/attendance administration, reporting).
  • Assist with new product launches within the plant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Work environment

Manufacturing setting with presses and machinery; moderate noise and occasional traffic from material movement. Hearing protection is required.

Physical demands

  • Periods of standing and walking; ability to sit as tasks require.
  • Lift, carry, and handle items up to 35 pounds.

Education and experience

  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • Associate degree in a related field (strongly preferred).
  • 5+ years in automotive manufacturing.
  • 5+ years in Quality roles.
  • 5+ years working with metal stamping and welding operations.

Computer

  • Comfort with MS Office, Plex, and other industry software.

Communication

  • Clear verbal communication with colleagues and customers.
  • Ability to read/interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Interpret instructions delivered in written, verbal, diagrammatic, or schedule form.

Mathematics

  • Fluent in arithmetic and basic algebra; strong shop math and geometry.

Other

  • Exceptional attention to detail; organized; able to prioritize and meet deadlines while multitasking.
  • Practical problem-solving with limited standardization.
  • Blueprint literacy with GD&T.

Technical proficiencies

  • GD&T; Blueprint Reading.
  • Quality Inspection; Advanced Inspection & Gauge Measurement; Precision Measurement & Hand Metrology.
  • Data Analysis and Manipulation; Quality Control Data Analysis.
  • Continuous Improvement; Kaizen.
  • PFMEA; 5 Why; Fishbone (Ishikawa) analysis.
  • APQP; PPAP process experience.
  • GMP; Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).

Tools and technologies

  • Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
  • Quality Control software.
