Online Structured Literacy Instructor

Employment type and schedule: Contract, remote. Candidates must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States. Flexible teaching opportunities Monday–Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Session length: typically 30–40 minutes per small-group lesson (up to four students). Compensation: Up to $24/hour.

Location: Remote within the United States, excluding California.

Organization overview: Air Education Inc. (Air Reading) delivers evidence-based, small-group online reading instruction to elementary students across the United States. Grounded in the Science of Reading, the program partners with schools to accelerate student literacy development and provides instructors with a structured curriculum, coaching, and professional development. Key responsibilities:

• Deliver structured, explicit, and systematic phonics and reading instruction to small groups (up to four students) via Zoom, following step-by-step curriculum and lesson plans.
• Maintain fidelity to structured literacy and Science of Reading approaches, implementing instructional routines and multisensory techniques as specified by the curriculum.
• Administer routine benchmark and progress assessments, accurately record results, and monitor student growth using established tools and reporting procedures.
• Provide timely, actionable feedback to students and school partners to support literacy development and inform instructional adjustments.
• Create and sustain a positive, orderly virtual learning environment that promotes engagement, on-task behavior, and equitable participation.
• Participate in required training, curriculum orientation, and periodic coaching to ensure consistent instructional quality and professional growth.
• Maintain professional communication and reliability regarding scheduling, attendance, session preparation, and documentation.

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Current residence in and authorization to work in the United States.
• Proficiency with Zoom and common digital teaching tools; ability to manage virtual classroom technologies.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with elementary-aged students.
• Dependability in meeting scheduled sessions and maintaining professional standards in a remote instructional setting.

Preferred qualifications (not required):

• Bilingual in Spanish and English.
• Degree or coursework in education, literacy, English, or a related field.
• Experience teaching early reading, phonics, or K–3 instruction and familiarity with structured literacy methods.
