About Custom Truck One Source (CTOS)
For more than 30 years, CTOS has supported essential industries with a 10,000+ unit fleet across 40+ locations and a team of 2,600 employees serving utility, telecom, rail, and construction markets.
A Day in the Field
It’s early in Detroit when the call comes in: a bucket truck is grounded at a jobsite. You roll out in your fully equipped service truck — crane, welder, and compressor on board — and head to the customer. On site, you methodically diagnose hydraulic issues, confirm electrical integrity, and validate diesel performance. By afternoon, you’re completing a DOT inspection and dielectric test on another customer’s aerial device before heading back, tools stowed and tickets closed. Tomorrow might take you to Grand Rapids or Monroe — and you’re ready.
The Work You’ll Do
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain aerial, construction, and light- to heavy-duty truck equipment — including bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, and service trucks — directly at customer locations.
- Service diesel engines, hydraulic circuits, and electrical systems; perform inspections, troubleshooting, and parts replacement on CTOS rental and customer units.
- Complete compliance tasks such as DOT inspections and dielectric testing.
Where You’ll Operate
- Home-base flexibility: work from Ann Arbor, Monroe, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, or Kalamazoo.
- Primary support across Michigan with travel into Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and other areas as needed.
- Remote road mechanic duties with most work occurring within 150 miles of Las Vegas.
- Overnight travel approximately 25% across MI, IN, OH, and IL.
What You’ll Bring
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in both shop and field environments.
- Background with utility, construction ("yellow iron"), or heavy equipment (CAT, Deere, Komatsu) and medium/heavy-duty trucks.
- Strong capabilities in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostics and repair.
- Self-sufficiency in the field, excellent organization, and the ability to collaborate or work independently.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL Class B is a plus and personal tools are required.
