Precision CNC Programmer–Setup Machinist (Geotechnical Components)

A day in this role

Start by reviewing prints for drilling and geotechnical components, translating those specifications into efficient toolpaths. You’ll write clean G-code or generate programs in CAM, build robust setups, and run parts that demand mic-level consistency. From first article through final inspection, you own dimensional accuracy and finish quality.

What you will do

  • Program CNC equipment using G-code and/or CAM to produce complex precision parts for drilling and geotechnical applications.
  • Perform advanced setups: design and install fixturing, select tooling, and dial in work/tool offsets.
  • Machine close-tolerance components from steel, aluminum, and specialty alloys to exacting standards.
  • Inspect workpieces against blueprint requirements and validate critical dimensions.
  • Troubleshoot machining challenges and implement corrective actions to improve cycle time and quality.
  • Mentor CNC Operators and Assistants; share best practices in programming and setup.
  • Maintain complete and accurate production and inspection records.

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of CNC machining experience.
  • Strong proficiency programming in G-code.
  • Proven ability to hold tight tolerances (±0.001").

Preferred background

  • Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology.
  • CAM experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360).
  • Experience machining drill rods or downhole tooling.

Physical demands & environment

  • Prolonged standing; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regular exposure to cutting fluids, metal dust, and elevated noise levels.
  • Personal protective equipment required at all times.

Core proficiencies

  • CNC Tooling
  • CNC Programming
  • CNC Machine Setup & Changeover
