Chemical Plant Process Engineer — Sulphur Operations

  • Location: Anacortes, WA
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Reporting: Operations Manager

Compensation & Classification

Compensation: $95,000-105,000 + bonus, + benefits (salaried, exempt)

The range shown reflects the targeted pay scale. Actual pay within the range depends on work location and factors such as skills, experience, and education. What success looks like

Picture this: You scope a bottleneck using plant historian data, confirm the root cause with a quick test plan, and publish a concise recommendation that lifts throughput without compromising safety. Later, you facilitate a HAZ-OPS session, drive MOC documentation, and ensure PHA actions are prioritized and closed. Along the way, you partner with operations during a planned shutdown to inspect equipment and troubleshoot on the fly.

Your impact areas (time allocation)

  • Improve processing methods and controls for safe, cost-effective quality and output — 5%.
  • Define and report operational reliability measures — 10%.
  • Produce process engineering designs, calculations, and reports for projects — 35%.
  • Support shutdown inspections and troubleshooting — 10%.
  • Drive the US site P&ID program — 10%.
  • Participate in audits and special projects to maintain internal/external compliance — 15%.
  • Champion Good Engineering Practices and correct materials of construction — 5%.
  • Advance your skills through ongoing training — 10%.

What you’ll need to thrive

  • BS in Chemical Engineering (accredited) and 0–3 years of process engineering/design experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% (primarily U.S.; occasionally Canada).
  • Skill in process design, analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Comfort coordinating Process Safety Management elements: HAZ-OPS, MOC, and PHA.
  • Demonstrated dedication to employee health and safety; familiarity with OSHA PSM.
  • Strong analytical thinking and practical problem-solving.
  • Ability to partner effectively across site functions.
  • Knowledge of process controls, PLCs, and DCS.
