A day in this role

Start your day at 5:00 AM on 1st shift, Monday–Friday (weekends off). You’ll review the morning plan, help stage and verify orders, and ensure each load is accurate and secured. You’ll head out on local routes to deliver finished product and pick up raw materials for production, returning between stops to assist with loading/unloading as needed. Throughout the day, you’ll perform routine vehicle inspections, complete preventative maintenance checks, and keep equipment clean and in top working order—all while following Dexter’s safety and security standards. When routes wrap up around 2:30 PM, you’ll finalize paperwork, confirm next-day routing, and finish with a quick equipment check. Occasional overtime may be required, including some weekends.

What you’ll handle

  • Assist with preparing orders and staging loads
  • Load and unload trucks; audit loads for accuracy
  • Verify load securement and trailer readiness
  • Help plan economical routes and timelines
  • Deliver finished products to customer sites
  • Pick up raw materials for production
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance; report defects
  • Keep vehicles and equipment clean and ready
  • Work to established safety and security protocols

What you bring

  • Class A CDL (must be maintained)
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred (not required)
  • Ability to read work instructions and documents in English
  • Three (3) years of driving experience preferred (not required)
  • Clean driving record and strong safety habits
  • Self-motivated; able to work with limited supervision
  • Clear written and verbal communication; strong people skills
  • Detail orientation and high-quality workmanship
  • Time management skills; able to work overtime as needed, including occasional 12-hour days
  • Proficiencies: DOT Medical Card; Current CDL License

Work environment & physical demands

  • Primarily outdoor work with occasional indoor tasks; temperatures may be hot or cold depending on season
  • Mandatory PPE for eyes, ears, hands, and feet
  • May require overtime, including weekends
  • Lift up to 50 lbs; frequent standing, reaching, balancing, and lower-extremity stretching
  • Frequent grasping, pinching, and fine manipulation; occasional bending and squatting
