Box Truck Route Specialist, Industrial Sheet Metal Logistics

About the role

As the on-the-road extension of our Shipping team, you’ll keep production moving across Indianapolis by shuttling in-process sheet metal parts to vendors and delivering finished goods to customers. You’ll operate a company box truck, plan efficient routes, provide courteous service, and make safety your constant companion. If you’re a self-starter with a clean driving record who thrives with minimal supervision, we’d like to meet you.

Day in the life

You’ll start by reviewing delivery instructions, inspecting and tidying your truck, and mapping your route. Loads are secured and balanced to protect product integrity. Throughout the day, you’ll navigate the Indianapolis area, interact professionally with vendors and customers, obtain signatures, and keep the box truck fueled and clean. You’ll promptly communicate any incidents or vehicle issues to management so we can address them without delay.

Core responsibilities

• Safely transport sheet metal products to and from specified locations around the Indianapolis area.
• Efficiently plan routes to help meet delivery schedules.
• Collect and verify delivery instructions.
• Secure product and properly arrange and balance it within the truck to prevent damage.
• Assist in the loading and unloading of goods, using hand trucks and forklifts as required.
• Obtain signatures to confirm and complete deliveries with clients.
• Interact with customers and vendors in a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude.
• Refuel and clean the box truck as needed.
• Obey and follow applicable traffic laws, making safety a priority at all times.
• Notify management of any accidents, parking tickets, vehicle damage, and major maintenance issues.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Proven work experience as a truck driver.
• Current commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred; Indiana For-Hire Endorsement is a minimum qualification.
• Clean driving record required.
• Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles.
• Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize responsibilities.
• Highly motivated and focused; a self-starter who works well independently.
• Alert, focused, and detail-oriented with strong stress management.
• Ability to use reason to solve problems as they arise.
• Technical competence and adequate computer skills.
• Previous warehouse and delivery experience preferred.
