Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator — Steel Manufacturing

Role overview

Operate, monitor, and support industrial wastewater treatment processes that protect our operations and environment at a leading steel producer. This position requires an IDEM Wastewater Operator License at Class A or higher.

Core responsibilities

  • Run and observe treatment systems serving production and service units; record readings and adjust processes.
  • Handle, transport, and process materials and chemicals; some items are heavy, sharp, or hazardous.
  • Perform manual tasks, including lifting more than 50 lbs, staging supplies, and housekeeping.
  • Assist in equipment inspections and basic maintenance to sustain uptime and compliance.
  • Work from elevated platforms as needed and operate mobile equipment safely.
  • Perform effectively in hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy conditions.

Minimum requirements

  • Active Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) Wastewater Operator License—Class A or higher.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Availability for rotating 8-hour shifts (including weekends and holidays) and overtime when required.
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures; consistent use of PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, metatarsal boots, and respirator when necessary.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work with self-direction.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment digital assessment.

Work schedule and environment

  • Rotating shifts across days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical work with frequent movement, climbing, and lifting >50 lbs.
  • Exposure to varied industrial environments and weather conditions.
