Atlas Fibre is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support our growing machining operation in Northbrook, IL. We specialize in composite laminates and high-performance plastic components, producing complex, high-precision parts across a variety of industries.
This position is ideal for an experienced manufacturing professional who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and working directly with production teams. The Manufacturing Engineer will play a critical role in supporting daily operations, troubleshooting manufacturing challenges, improving throughput, and developing robust machining processes.
Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support to production operations
Troubleshoot machining, quality, tooling, fixturing, and process-related issues
Develop and improve machining processes for composite and plastic components
Create and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam as needed
Design and implement workholding, fixtures, and manufacturing solutions
Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for production and quality issues
Work closely with machinists, programmers, quality personnel, and management to improve manufacturing performance
Develop setup sheets, work instructions, process documentation, and engineering standards
Support new product introduction (NPI) activities and transition projects into production
Assist with equipment validation, process capability studies, and continuous improvement initiatives
Evaluate manufacturing risks and implement practical solutions to improve quality and efficiency
5+ years of Manufacturing Engineering, CNC Programming, or related experiences
Strong understanding of CNC machining processes
Experience with Mastercam or similar CAM software
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD models
Working knowledge of GD&T and inspection methods
Experience troubleshooting manufacturing and quality issues
Strong understanding of tooling and machining fundamentals
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
Experience machining plastics, composites, or engineered materials
Familiarity with Vericut or similar simulation software
Experience with fixture design and workholding development
Experience with Renishaw probing systems and machine calibration
Exposure to lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
Experience with multi-axis machining (4-axis and 5-axis)
Knowledge of process validation, capability studies, and statistical analysis
Experience supporting NPI and production launches
Work on challenging, high-precision components made from advanced materials

Salary: $125,000-$150,000 (based on experience and skill level)
