Role Snapshot

We’re hiring a Welder II who specializes in repairing and validating spirally welded cylinders. Your craft ensures each cylinder meets dimensional tolerances and performance specs before moving forward.

A Day in the Life

  • On 1st shift (5:00 AM–5:00 PM) or 2nd shift (5:00 PM–5:00 AM), with weekends as needed, you begin with safety checks and a review of work orders.
  • Inspect the interior and exterior of each spiral-weld cylinder for weld and base-metal discontinuities and dimensional accuracy.
  • Use air carbon arc gouging to remove defects and prepare joints for rewelding; square ends with an oxy‑acetylene torch and finish with grinders.
  • Execute flux‑cored weld repairs that comply with AWWA C200 and specific job requirements.
  • Record all repairs and dimensions precisely to the 1/32 inch.
  • Perform light maintenance on welding gear and keep your station organized and hazard-free.
  • Work under general supervision and report to a crew leader and/or supervisor.

Must‑Have Qualifications

  • Air carbon arc gouging proficiency (required—this is not just a plus).
  • Pass a 3G test with back gouge and back weld using the FCAW process.
  • Demonstrated ability to weld to ASME Section VIII, UW‑51 (100% RT X‑Ray) acceptance criteria and sustain a 92% acceptance rate.
  • Experience with flux‑cored welding; SMAW and SAW experience is a plus.
  • Comfort reading blueprints and setting up production welding.
  • Able to follow instructions delivered in written and verbal formats.
