Dental Lab Operations Manager (Digital)

The Dental Lab Operations Manager will oversee the daily workflows of a high-volume digital dental laboratory. This role is critical in bridging the gap between traditional dental technology and modern CAD/CAM workflows. You will be responsible for managing a team of technicians, optimizing digital production cycles, and ensuring that every restoration meets rigorous quality and aesthetic standards before delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Workflow Optimization: Manage the end-to-end digital production process, including STL file intake, digital design, 3D printing, milling, and post-processing.

  • Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor dental technicians and digital designers. Manage scheduling and performance reviews to ensure a productive, positive culture.

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct final quality checks on all cases (e.g., crowns, bridges, implants, and removables) to ensure precise fit, occlusion, and shade accuracy.

  • Technical Troubleshooting: Maintain and troubleshoot digital equipment, including scanners, 5-axis mills, and resin printers. Coordinate with vendors for software updates and hardware repairs.

  • Case Management: Communicate directly with clinical staff or doctors regarding complex cases, digital impressions, and delivery timelines.

  • Inventory & Budgeting: Oversee the procurement of materials (zirconia, resins, burs) and manage laboratory overhead to maintain profitability.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years in a dental laboratory, with at least 2–3 years in a management or lead technician role.

  • Digital Proficiency: Advanced expertise in Exocad, 3Shape, or similar dental CAD software.

  • Clinical Knowledge: Deep understanding of dental anatomy, morphology, and various restorative materials (Zirconia, E.max, PFM).

  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage a diverse team and handle high-pressure deadlines without compromising quality.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience transitioning a lab from analog to fully digital workflows.

  • Familiarity with Lab Management Software (e.g., LabVista, Magic Touch).
