CNC Prototyping Fabrication Specialist
Location: Troy, Michigan
Engagement: Contract, Hybrid
Compensation: $31.00 – $50.00 per hour (based on proven work history)
A day in the lab
You arrive to a clean, organized shop and review the day’s build list. First up: programming a 5‑axis milling machine to cut a new fixture. After verifying your toolpaths in CAD/CAM (Fusion 360 or a similar platform), you run a quick check with calipers and a dial indicator to validate tolerances. Mid-morning, a teammate asks for input on a weld method—your MIG/TIG experience guides them toward a better joint design. By afternoon, you’re shaping compression molds on the CNC Bridgeport, turning parts on the lathe, and assembling bladder lamination tooling for a prototype model. Before you wrap, you tidy your cell to 5S standards and document what’s next.
What you’ll build and how you’ll lead
- Make and modify equipment, tooling, jigs, fixtures, and compression molds using CNC Bridgeport, lathe, and MIG/TIG welding.
- Develop and refine CNC programs; advise teammates on machining strategies, proper welding methods, and fixture/jig/mold design.
- Design and construct prototype models, patterns, and bladder lamination tooling.
Expertise you bring
- Proficiency programming 5‑axis mills and using CAD/CAM (e.g., Fusion 360 or comparable software).
- Confident with precision measurement tools (calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
- Reliable work habits: punctuality, collaborative mindset, and willingness to ask questions to clarify assignments.
- Ability to learn, retain, and follow documented processes, procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Powered industrial forklift experience is a plus, not required.
Non‑negotiables
