Senior CNC Turning Programmer, Multi‑Axis Lathe

Shape precision. Shorten cycles. Elevate quality.

TekPro is representing a high‑tech precision machining company in San Jose, CA serving aerospace, defense, and other regulated industries. We’re looking for a seasoned CNC turning expert to own multi‑axis lathe programming from concept through prove‑out and continuous improvement.

A day in the role

You kick off by reviewing complex prints with tight GD&T, translate those into efficient CAM toolpaths, and post clean, reliable G‑code. Midday, you’re on the floor partnering with setup techs to prove out programs, dialing in speeds/feeds and workholding for stability and finish. By afternoon, you’re trimming cycle time, extending tool life, and locking down robust documentation for repeatability—all while ensuring programs align with ISO and AS9100 requirements.

What you’ll tackle

  • Build, verify, and optimize CNC lathe programs for complex components, including multi‑axis and live‑tooling work.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to craft accurate machining strategies.
  • Select tooling, speeds/feeds, and workholding to maximize quality and throughput.
  • Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and iterate programs to meet stringent dimensional criteria.
  • Maintain complete program files, process sheets, and tool lists.
  • Mentor operators and junior programmers; collaborate with engineering and quality to resolve issues.
  • Lead continuous improvement: Lean initiatives, cycle‑time reduction, and troubleshooting across machines, tooling, and code.

Tools and machines you’ll work with

  • CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or equivalent) and strong, hands‑on G‑code editing.
  • CNC Lathes: 2–4 axis (DMG Mori Seiki) and 5+ axis/mill‑turn (Doosan, DMG Mori Seiki).

Work environment

  • Predominantly shop‑floor engagement with focused computer time for programming.
  • Standard business hours with occasional overtime to meet production schedules.

What you bring

  • 7+ years of CNC lathe programming in a precision machining setting.
  • Fluency in G‑code and professional CAM use (Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or similar).
  • Proven experience with multi‑axis lathes and live tooling.
  • Expert ability to read complex prints and GD&T; meticulous problem solving and detail orientation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or apprenticeship preferred.

Bonus points

  • Background in aerospace, medical device, or defense machining.
  • Lean Manufacturing/continuous improvement experience.
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems for process control.

Quality and compliance

  • Ensure programs and processes align with ISO, AS9100, and customer specifications.
