You arrive to a new build: the schedule is tight, weather is shifting, and the steel needs long-term protection. You assess, prep, and apply the correct coatings system—primer through finish—using the right tools and techniques. You document quality, maintain your gear, and hand off a product that’s built to last.

Core Responsibilities

• Prepare structural steel by cleaning, grinding, sanding, and wiping with thinners to achieve a coating-ready surface.
• Apply primers, paints, and specialty protective coatings tailored to each component’s needs.
• Operate spray guns, brushes, and rollers to produce an even, consistent finish.
• Inspect substrates for rust, contamination, and imperfections prior to coating.
• Mix paints, primers, and coatings exactly to specification.
• Deliver work that meets industry standards, project specifications, and performance requirements.
• Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE throughout every task.
• Handle, store, and dispose of materials, chemicals, and equipment per safety and environmental regulations.
• Maintain and clean application equipment and tools for reliable performance.
• Execute quality control checks to confirm proper application and durability.
• Collaborate with supervisors and teammates to hit deadlines and specification targets.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience painting in structural steel or industrial environments.
• Understanding of paints, primers, thinners, and application methods.
• Proven skill with spray equipment, brushes, and rollers.
• Detail-oriented, with strong quality control habits.
• Committed to safety, especially when handling hazardous materials.
• Comfortable working solo or as part of a coordinated crew.

Conditions & Physical Demands

• Work in all elements depending on season and site: heat, cold, rain, and snow.
• Use PPE including safety glasses, face shield, gloves, and a respirator when required.
• Perform repetitive motions with arms, hands, and fingers.
• Work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week; overtime and night shifts as required.
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
• Good physical stamina and strength; able to lift 51 pounds.
• Remain on your feet and moving throughout the shift.
• Maintain good vision (normal or corrected).
