Step into Chemours’ Titanium Technologies facility in New Johnsonville, Tennessee, where TiO2 pigment and slurry power cleaner energy, advanced electronics, high‑performance computing and AI, climate-friendly cooling, and durable coatings. Our operating units are designated as highly hazardous processes and are a vital link in our global supply chain.
As our Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Reliability Engineer, you’ll embed with one of three operating areas. Your mission: keep critical instrumentation and electrical assets healthy, solve problems to root cause, and design long-term strategies that eliminate defects and elevate performance.
A day in this role
- Partner with maintenance and operations to troubleshoot equipment, evaluate failures, and recommend fixes and upgrades.
- Become the area’s go-to subject matter expert—crafting procedures and supporting skills development/training.
- Drive Management of Change (MOC) to improve safety, quality, environmental footprint, and cost.
- Build and implement Mechanical Integrity/Quality Assurance, Reliability, and PPM programs for the unit.
- Provide hands-on technical depth for I&E up to 480V, including:
- Instruments (level, flow, pressure) and control valves—function, operation, and reliability.
- Process and ambient analyzers—operation and reliability support.
- Basic electric systems (120 VAC to 480 V), wiring, power panels, and heat trace.
- Motors, MCCs/starters, and VFDs—up to 480 V.
- Burners and associated reliability considerations.
- MOC and capital project support for I&E scope; serve as approver for area MOC with I&E scope.
- Contribute to process hazard analyses and scope development for capital projects.
- Lead root cause investigations, kaizen events, and cross-functional problem-solving.
- Prepare/audit scopes of work, estimates, schedules, and equipment specifications.
- Continuously refine preventive maintenance plans and frequencies.
- Assess vendor proposals—balancing functionality, cost, and timing.
- Collaborate across site reliability engineers and technicians to accelerate improvements.
- Provide occasional shift/weekend coverage for start-ups, testing, turnarounds, and other non-routine needs.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 3+ years of related industrial/manufacturing experience or Military Equivalent (co-op/internship counts).
- Working knowledge in at least two areas: instruments (level/flow/pressure), analyzers, basic electric (120 VAC–480 V), wiring, power panels, heat trace, motors, starters, VFDs, control valves.
- Bias for action, safety-first mindset, and flexibility to move projects forward.
- Data-driven troubleshooting and decision-making.
- Ability to juggle urgent issues, short deadlines, and multiple priorities.
- Thrives independently and on teams; clear communicator with diverse stakeholders.
- Influences across leadership, peers, and technicians; comfortable taking a hands-on approach with operators and craft.
- Proficiency with common business tools (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Willing and able to wear PPE (steel toes, hard hat, eye protection, respirators, etc.).
Preferred qualifications
- Experience partnering with field operations on troubleshooting.
- Background in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
- Process Safety Management (PSM) experience.
- Probability of Failure (PFD) analysis for Safety Interlock systems.
- Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
- Knowledge of industry standards (NEC, ISA, etc.).
- Familiarity with industry codes and engineered best practices.
- PLC systems experience.
- Power systems analysis and applications.
- Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and related maintenance programs.
- Working knowledge of SAP.
