Medical Assistant

Position Summary

We are seeking a qualified Medical Assistant II to support the clinical team at our Orthopaedics Clinic. The Medical Assistant will assist providers with patient care, clinical procedures, patient intake, documentation, appointment scheduling, and daily clinic operations to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

The selected candidate will work alongside another Medical Assistant and two providers, helping maintain smooth patient flow and high-quality service throughout the assignment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare for patient visits by reviewing schedules, test results, and clinic-specific requirements.
  • Room patients and document chief complaints, reasons for visits, vital signs, medication lists, allergies, smoking history, and other required clinical information.
  • Keep patients informed about appointment delays and the progress of their visits.
  • Perform hearing and vision screenings, EKGs, spirometry, point-of-care testing, and specimen collection as required and according to validated competencies.
  • Prepare, clean, and stock examination rooms and clinical supplies before and between patient appointments.
  • Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine and specialty procedures.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and referrals as directed.
  • Perform administrative duties, including scanning, photocopying, faxing, and maintaining accurate patient documentation.
  • Handle telephone messages and in-person patient inquiries, ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and follow established clinical safety procedures.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program.
  • At least one year of related experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of standard clinical equipment and its proper use and care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Medical Assistant certification, such as CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA.
  • Experience in an orthopaedics clinic, outpatient clinic, or physician's office.
  • Familiarity with patient rooming, vital signs, clinical documentation, EKGs, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and patient-service skills.
