Make every shift safer, cleaner, and more reliable
Step into our high‑volume plastics operation and lead the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program that keeps people protected, processes compliant, and production moving. As the Site EHS Manager, you own the EHS management system and partner with leaders across the plant to elevate our standards to world‑class levels.
A day in the life
You start by scanning leading and lagging indicators, reviewing the OSHA 300 log, TRIR and DART trends, and yesterday’s near‑misses. On the floor, you coach teams through behavioral observations, verify machine guarding and LOTO readiness at an injection molding cell, and validate a new robot cell against company and regulatory requirements. Mid‑day, you chair the Safety Committee, align actions from root‑cause investigations, and prepare an executive snapshot for senior leadership. In the afternoon, you walk the grounds with a contractor to plan predictive maintenance for HVAC and fire systems, then close the day finalizing an EPCRA Tier II submission and stormwater inspection notes.
What you will lead
- Own, improve, and sustain the site’s EHS management system and strategy to achieve ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification (or equivalent).
- Drive full compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local requirements, including air permits, storm water, hazardous waste, SPCC, EPCRA Tier II & Form R, and wastewater.
- Plan and execute risk assessments tailored to injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, robotics, and auxiliary processes (JHA, PHA, machine guarding, LOTO, confined space, hot work, ergonomics, chemical handling).
- Lead incident investigations with robust root‑cause methods; ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and sustained.
- Develop and deliver training for new hires and incumbents (LOTO, forklift, crane, hazardous materials, emergency response, contractor orientation, and more).
- Maintain the OSHA 300 log, monitor leading/lagging indicators, and deliver year‑over‑year reductions in TRIR and DART.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring programs (noise, dust, fumes).
- Chair the Safety Committee, strengthen engagement through safety talks, near‑miss reporting, and behavioral‑based safety.
- Act as primary contact for regulatory inspections, insurance reviews, and corporate audits; present monthly EHS and facilities performance to senior leadership.
Facilities and contractor stewardship
- Oversee and manage third‑party contracts for utilities, building and grounds maintenance, and service providers (waste removal, pest control, security, janitorial, landscaping, fire systems, etc.).
- Supervise an EHS/Facilities Coordinator (1 direct report) and guide their development and daily priorities.
- Ensure compliance with building and fire codes and insurance requirements; coordinate emergency response teams and procedures.
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs with contractors for building repairs, fire/alarm, and HVAC systems.
- Control spend and pursue energy, water, and waste reduction initiatives.
Collaboration
You will partner closely with the Global Leadership Team, department managers and supervisors, cross‑functional teams, and internal/external customers to embed safety and sustainability into daily operations.
Decision-making authority
You have authority to make decisions on any issue that poses a risk to the health and safety of Mergon employees or those affected by the company’s activities, including stopping work when necessary.
