Apprentice Precision Machining Technician (Screw Machine)

Build Your Machining Foundation—Kentwood, MI

You like tools, troubleshooting, and seeing a clean part come off the machine. We’ll teach you the rest. In our Screw Machine Academy, you’ll become fluent in Tornos operations and launch a career on our night crew.

Schedule & Training

  • Training: 4–6 weeks on day shift
  • Then: Night shift, 8:00 pm–6:00 am, 50 hours per week

Academy Curriculum Highlights

  • Tornos screw machine components and how each function impacts part quality
  • Using operational controls; performing essential maintenance
  • Bar stock prep, loading, and restocking best practices
  • Finding the root cause of defects and correcting them quickly
  • Tool changes and slide adjustments to maintain capability
  • Applying shaving ops; using roller supports and floating holders
  • Maintaining collets and pushers; replacing cutoff tooling
  • Dialing in pickoff and cutoff settings

Must-Haves

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass an onsite mechanical aptitude assessment
  • Attention to detail and consistent quality focus
  • Mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn hands-on
  • Availability for nights after training (8 pm–6 am, 50 hrs/week)

Experience That Counts (transferable skills)

  • Automotive repair: brakes, oil changes, tire service
  • Drywall installation or similar trades
  • Manual machining skills
  • Shop math proficiency
  • Any prior manufacturing environment experience
