Intelligent Transportation Signal Electrician — Austin, TX

Role Overview

Serve as the field electrician responsible for building, wiring, and activating intersection control systems across Austin. You will integrate signals, pedestrian interfaces, detection devices, and cabinets to engineered specifications while upholding MUTCD, OSHA, and project standards.

Core Responsibilities

• Review and interpret engineered intersection plans, schematics, risers, and overhead signal layouts.
• Install, wire, and terminate signal heads, pedestrian push buttons, and multiple detection technologies per specifications.
• Pull, route, and splice overhead/underground conductors through conduit, maintaining color codes and proper terminations.
• Assemble and install signal poles, mast arms, and bracketry using correct hardware, torque, and rigging techniques.
• Set up and commission detection systems, controllers, cabinets, and battery backup systems for reliable uptime.
• Operate bucket trucks and aerial lifts to align/aim signals for optimal visibility.
• Execute voltage, continuity, and signal tests using multimeters and diagnostic equipment.
• Adhere to MUTCD, OSHA, and company protocols for aerial work, electrical safety, and temporary traffic control.
• Maintain clean, well-organized wiring inside cabinets, junction boxes, and poles.
• Assist with material staging, inventory, and safe loading/unloading of poles, arms, and cabinets.
• Record installations, inspections, and adjustments in logs or digital systems.
• Report discrepancies, material shortfalls, or safety concerns to the Foreman/Leadman immediately.
• Provide traffic control/flagging to protect crews, equipment, and the public.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 1–5 years of traffic signal installation, electrical, or related construction experience.
• Competence in reading construction drawings, electrical schematics, and riser diagrams.
• Knowledge of MUTCD, OSHA, and TxDOT standards preferred.
• Skilled with bucket trucks, aerial lifts, and basic rigging.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and electrical test instruments.
• Strong attention to detail; comfortable working at heights.
• Strict adherence to PPE, aerial safety, and electrical hazard controls.
• Valid driver’s license with insurable driving status for company vehicles.

Sign-On Bonus Eligibility

This role offers a $1,000 sign-on bonus. The bonus is subject to applicable taxes and withholdings. Eligibility criteria, payment timing, any continued-employment requirements, and potential repayment obligations are governed by the Company’s Sign-On Bonus Agreement. Receipt of the bonus requires meeting all eligibility requirements and executing the applicable agreement.

Physical Requirements

Outdoor, year-round work in extreme heat, cold, rain, and other weather. Frequent standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods. Regular lifting up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting up to 100 lbs. with assistance for poles, mast arms, equipment, and materials. Work at heights via bucket trucks and aerial lifts with exposure to dust, noise, and vibration.
