Position overview
Represent plaintiffs in asbestos and mesothelioma matters, managing a docket from intake through resolution. The attorney will develop litigation strategy, prepare and file pleadings, conduct discovery and depositions, coordinate with experts, and advocate at hearings and trials as necessary. The role requires effective client communication, case management, and collaboration with a trial‑focused team.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of asbestos/mesothelioma and related plaintiff matters from intake to resolution.
- Develop and implement litigation strategy, including fact investigation, discovery planning, motion practice, and trial preparation.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other court filings with accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and examine lay witnesses and experts at depositions and trial; coordinate retention and preparation of medical and industry experts.
- Communicate regularly and compassionately with clients and families about case status and expectations.
- Maintain organized case files, calendaring, budgeting, and meet firm and client deadlines and metrics.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff; mentor more junior team members as appropriate.
- Travel to attend depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials as required.
Required qualifications
- Active license to practice law in Oregon.
- Minimum of two (2) years of litigation experience; experience in plaintiffs asbestos/mesothelioma litigation is strongly preferred.
- Proven written and oral advocacy skills, including motion practice and deposition experience.
- Ability to manage a high‑volume caseload efficiently and to prioritize competing deadlines.
- Demonstrated professionalism in working with seriously ill clients and their families.
Preferred qualifications
- Direct plaintiffs asbestos/mesothelioma experience, including familiarity with exposure pathways, product identification, and expert coordination.
- Background in related areas such as personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice, premises liability, or construction defect litigation.
- First‑ or significant second‑chair trial experience.
- Experience mentoring junior attorneys and contributing to a trial‑ready practice culture.
