Rail Vehicle Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician

What a typical day looks like

You arrive on the production floor and review the day’s work order for a coach set. With blueprints and wiring diagrams at hand, you:

  • Assemble major carbody and systems components: roofs, electrical racks and panels, air supply racks, cable harnesses, mounted parts, and piping assemblies.
  • Route, cut, comb, twist, wrap, tie, and secure wiring to specified terminal points.
  • Connect conductors between components, including terminations at connectors, terminals, and contact points.
  • Perform electrical wire terminations and verify quality against specifications.
  • Disassemble, modify, rework, refurbish, and reassemble parts as needed to meet standards.
  • Work from production blueprints, wiring diagrams, parts lists, wire lists, sketches, and verbal instructions to build electrical and electro-mechanical subassemblies.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic equipment safely and effectively.

What you’ll bring

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in manufacturing or a closely related environment (e.g., construction, automotive, electrical service).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Comfort using a variety of hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
  • Basic English skills for reading work instructions and communicating with teammates.

Physical and work environment

  • Frequent walking; reaching; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Regular climbing of stairs, steps, and ladders; work on elevated platforms and overhead.
  • Occasional lifting and moving up to 40 lbs.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, plus focusing ability.
  • Candidates should be willing to work in non-climate-controlled environments and inclement weather if required or if applicable.

Location, pay, and shifts

Based in Sacramento, CA. The base hourly rate is $21.00. A 10% shift differential applies to second shift. Both shifts are available. Actual offers may be lower or higher depending on budget as well as your experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
