Safely operate excavators, loaders, graders or forklifts to move earth, aggregate, pallets or heavy materials on construction sites or within industrial yards.
Key responsibilities
Read grade stakes/blueprints; execute cuts, fills and slopes to spec
Inspect equipment daily; report mechanical issues and coordinate repairs
Follow hand signals, spotters and traffic control plans to prevent incidents
Maintain production & fuel logs; perform minor maintenance (grease, filters)
Adhere to Cal/OSHA, MSHA or site‑specific safety rules, including PPE
Typical requirements
NCCER or Operating Engineers Union apprenticeship preferred
2 + years on excavator, loader, backhoe, dozer or similar equipment
Ability to pass respirator fit and DOT medical (if hauling)
OSHA 10‑hour or OSHA 30‑hour construction safety card
