Master Production Scheduler

Master Production Scheduler

  • Location: Omaha, NE
  • Salary: $65,000–$95,000 per year
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Employment Type: Full-Time
  • Reports To: VP of Operations
  • Industry: Manufacturing — Food Processing Equipment & Replacement Parts

A Day in the Role

When you start your morning, you’ll scan the order board, check material status in the ERP/MRP, and align labor and machine capacity with urgent customer commitments. By mid-morning, you’re collaborating with the Shop Manager to load the floor, releasing prints and job tickets, staging kits, and removing bottlenecks before they slow the line. Afternoons are for schedule adjustments, communicating changes to stakeholders, and closing out finished work orders with variance notes. Throughout the day, you keep production moving so orders are completed on time, within budget, and to our quality standards.

This is a hands-on role for a detail-obsessed problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced shop and enjoys working shoulder-to-shoulder with machinists, fabricators, assemblers, and operations leadership.

What You’ll Accomplish

Planning & Scheduling

  • Create and maintain achievable production schedules from customer demand, capacity, materials, labor, and equipment availability.
  • Set delivery timelines for quotes and confirmed jobs; dynamically re-prioritize as conditions change.
  • Monitor WIP and anticipate delays, conflicts, or constraints before they affect commitments.
  • Coordinate daily with the Shop Manager to balance resources and production priorities.
  • Keep task lists, due dates, statuses, and issue notes accurate and current; communicate updates promptly.
  • Shepherd jobs through manufacturing, quality inspection, inventory, and shipping.

Materials & Inventory

  • Verify material availability, calculate requirements, and place timely purchases to protect the schedule.
  • Plan against min/max levels and job ticket needs; build and stage kits for assembly.
  • Prepare blanks, components, and materials on job carts to keep work centers fed.
  • Identify and resolve shortages before they create downtime.

Manufacturing Support

  • Issue drawings, prints, routings, and travelers to the right stations at the right time.
  • Move parts through operations and QC to maintain flow; route finished parts to inventory or shipping.
  • Close jobs and work orders, documenting variances and lessons learned.

Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with the Shop Manager and VP of Operations to reduce cost, streamline processes, and lift product quality and consistency.
  • Use performance data to expose bottlenecks and drive higher throughput, schedule adherence, and on-time delivery.
  • Grow your knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and technology.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring

  • 2+ years in a manufacturing or production setting.
  • Background in production scheduling, planning, inventory control, materials planning, or manufacturing coordination preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.

  • Proven ability to juggle multiple jobs, deadlines, and changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and sound decision-making.
  • Comfort making timely calls in a fast-moving production environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; effective across all levels.
  • Proactive timeline management and early risk identification.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic shop where priorities evolve during the day.
  • Solid computer skills; ready to learn ERP/MRP and scheduling/inventory systems.

Preferred

  • Experience in machining, fabrication, metalworking, assembly, or equipment manufacturing.
  • Hands-on time with ERP or MRP platforms.
  • Familiarity with travelers, work orders, routings, BOMs, and inventory systems.
  • Experience using metrics such as on-time delivery, production efficiency, throughput, and schedule adherence.
  • Comfort working from engineering drawings and specifications.
