A day in this role

You arrive at our temperature-controlled shop and start by reviewing work orders and manufacturing process documentation. You verify previous operation sign-offs and part counts, confirm your gages are within calibration date and in good condition, and perform the required checks on your equipment. With drawings and specifications at hand, you translate engineering intent—complete with GD&T to ASME Y14.5—into precise toolpaths, models, and setup sheets.

From there, you independently set up, prove out, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC programs across Swiss lathes and other shop equipment. You stabilize new programs into repeatable production, coach teammates on advanced Swiss strategies, and fine-tune processes to reduce cycle times while protecting capability and dimensional accuracy. If quality issues arise, you dig into machining parameters, chip control, tooling, workholding, or machine performance to resolve them quickly.

Throughout the day you capture process knowledge: updating documentation for legacy products, designing and programming workholding fixtures for different volumes, and validating new cutting tools and programming technologies. Everything you introduce supports product flow through the facility and maintains ID & traceability at every step.

What you’ll do

• Create, modify, and verify CNC programs and setup documentation for Swiss and other CNC operations.
• Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5; generate solid models, toolpaths, and prints in CAD/CAM.
• Independently set up, prove out, troubleshoot, and optimize programs; transition new work to stable, repeatable production.
• Develop and improve advanced CNC machining and inspection processes; provide responsive support for close‑tolerance components.
• Serve as the technical authority for Swiss machining processes; mentor programmers, manufacturing engineers, and machinists.
• Verify prior operation sign‑offs and part counts before starting any operation.
• Perform required equipment maintenance checks before manufacturing starts.
• Ensure measuring equipment is calibrated, within date, and in good working order before use.
• Maintain ID & traceability of product and documentation per established protocol.
• Reference applicable drawings, specifications, and Manufacturing Process Instructions before any operation; follow department Standard Process Instructions.
• Resolve machining‑related quality issues.
• Design and program workholding fixtures for multiple production levels.
• Reduce cycle times by optimizing programs, cutting tools, and fixturing.
• Create and maintain process documentation for legacy products.
• Research, test, and implement new cutting tools, workholding, and programming technology.
• Ensure all new CNC programs support and comply with product flow through the facility.

What you’ll need

• AS in Manufacturing Technology preferred, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years with CAD/CAM (Esprit, Mastercam, and SolidWorks preferred) and hands‑on CNC experience in a manufacturing environment; medical device experience is a plus.
• Experience with mechanical inspection and CMM inspection.
• Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite, CAD, CAM).
