Step into the day-to-day of metering leadership
Begin your morning aligning commercial obligations with technical design. You translate power purchase terms into precise revenue-grade metering specs, brief the substation design team, and coordinate with development and transmission services to keep interconnection milestones on track. In the afternoon, you review ION-8650 configurations, validate loss-compensation settings, and close the day reporting progress against contractual deliverables for a portfolio of renewable projects moving from concept through construction and commissioning.
About the role
The Engineering & Construction (E&C) division is seeking a metering-focused engineer who can own the full lifecycle of metering systems for utility-scale renewable development, design, and build. You will ensure metering requirements meet project objectives and commercial agreements, coordinate cross-functional teams, and, when needed, direct third-party engineering partners and Metering EORs.
What you will do
- Provide technical engineering, design, and development support across concept, design, construction, and commissioning.
- Monitor and report on contractual execution and design progress against schedule and budget.
- Apply company standards and policies; champion consistency and best practices across projects.
- Craft clear communications and presentations; support and lead internal and external meetings.
- Perform research and implement continuous improvement initiatives across metering processes and tools.
- Partner with development, business management, transmission services, and other stakeholders to define and validate customer and commercial requirements.
- Be available for extended hours as project needs require.
- Take on additional related responsibilities as assigned.
Who you collaborate with
Engineering teams (substation and P&C), project development, business management, transmission/interconnection services, third-party engineering firms, and external stakeholders.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- 3+ years of relevant P&C/Substation/Metering engineering experience and project management.
- 3–5 years of hands-on metering experience, including the ability to read protection & control drawings; knowledge of instrument transformers (CTs, PTs, CVTs) including type, accuracy, and burden; familiarity with multiple metering technologies (with emphasis on Schneider Electric ION-8650); understanding of meter-to-meter (peer-to-peer) schemes; knowledge of Fe/Cu transformer loss compensation, generator tie-line loss compensation, and allocating losses across technologies or PPA customers; and the ability to program meters or build reusable metering templates.
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering.
- Master’s in Engineering Management.
- PMP certification.
- 5+ years of P&C/Substation/Metering engineering experience with 2+ years specifically in project management.
Additional experience that stands out
- Experience with an ISO/RTO (e.g., SPP, MISO, CAISO).
- Reviewing Large Generator Interconnection Agreements (LGIAs) and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
- Working with retail service provider agreements.
- Substation design and metering standards.
- Metering auxiliary loads and bench testing meters.
- Protocols and systems: Modbus, DNP3, MV90.
- Schneider Electric ION-8650 meters using ION Setup & PME; SEL-735 meters using AcSELerator.
- Orion LX interface familiarity.
- Knowledge of IEEE-519 (2014) harmonic standard.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt, and apply best practices.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; business acumen; management capability; and technical writing proficiency.
Alternate pathway
In lieu of direct metering-specific experience, we will consider candidates with a strong background in AI systems and tools—including developing AI agents—combined with solid IT knowledge and an engineering degree.
Licenses and proficiency
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Proficiency: Project Management.
