GMAW Fitter–Assembler, Rolling Stock

Siemens Mobility unites automation and digital technologies to transform rail transportation. In Sacramento, our Rolling Stock team fabricates stainless-steel car bodies for passenger trains used across North America.

Could this be you?

  • Do you follow safety procedures religiously and wear PPE without compromise?
  • Can you fit, tack, and weld stainless components into subassemblies and final car bodies using jigs and fixtures — all to strict drawings and tolerances?
  • Are you confident welding to specified standards and repairing fabrication issues using defined procedures?
  • Are you comfortable with hand/power tools and modern welding equipment?
  • Do you document work orders and quality records accurately and manage your time with minimal supervision?

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3–5 years of stainless steel MIG experience, or an accredited welding program plus 2 years of MIG.
  • General mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic English skills for reading work instructions and effective verbal communication.

Preferred

  • AWS GMAW stainless certifications (3G vertical up and 4F overhead).
  • Hands-on GTAW (TIG) experience.

Work Conditions

  • Frequent walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Occasional sitting; fine motor tasks; climbing; balancing; crawling in tight spaces; talking and hearing.
  • Lift/carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Visual requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus.
  • PAPR and protective equipment required for welders.
  • May work in non-climate-controlled environments and in inclement weather when needed.

Pay, Shift & Location

Based in Sacramento, CA. Starting pay is $21.50 per hour, with a 10% differential for 2nd shift. Actual pay may be lower or higher depending on budget as well as experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
