Dimensional Metrology Inspector, Grinding Operations

Amsted Rail — Petersburg, VA | Brenco Bearing & Amsted Seals

You’re the kind of professional who notices thousandths. At Amsted Rail, a worldwide leader in freight rail solutions and a top‑tier employee‑owned company, your attention to detail keeps railcars rolling safely. Step into our Grinding Operations as a Dimensional Metrology Inspector and be the quality gate for tapered roller bearing components.

What success looks like

At 7:00 a.m., you review the day’s jobs, don required PPE, and walk the floor—anchored in the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program. A first‑article is ready: you verify dimensions with gauges against the print and the departmental quality plan, record data, and clear the line to run. Mid‑shift, a changeover kicks off; you partner with setup personnel to switch attachments, then help the team sort and segregate a suspect batch, notifying supervisors immediately. Before day’s end, you’ve lifted and positioned machine components safely using hoists, logged production run information in the system, and pitched in on packing to meet customer demand.
