CNC Machining Technician — Precision Turning & Milling

Location: Alsip, IL

Levels Considered: CNC Machine I, II & Specialist

A day in your life here

Picture your shift starting on time—either at 7:00am for first shift or 4:00pm for second. You review the job traveler, pull and preset tooling for the next run, and set up a 3–4 axis VMC or a 2–4 axis CNC lathe. As parts run, you’re inspecting critical features, deburring edges, and documenting results. You keep visual controls current, implement countermeasures when you spot variation, and maintain a spotless, safe workcell. When an abnormality surfaces, you either resolve it or escalate quickly. Along the way, you’re fully engaged in SMED, Kaizen, and 5 Whys activities—because continuous improvement is simply how you work.

What you’ll do

  • Set up CNC equipment, run production parts, and perform preventive maintenance per Standard Work.
  • Inspect to blueprint, hold tight tolerances, deburr, and perform needed manual operations.
  • Select and preset tools for upcoming jobs to minimize changeover time.
  • Update visual controls, implement countermeasures, and sustain 5S for a clean, safe environment.
  • Participate in SMED, Kaizen events, and 5 Whys problem solving.
  • Identify, resolve, and/or report equipment issues promptly.
  • Champion safety by following procedures and speaking up about unsafe conditions.

What makes you a great fit

  • 3+ years of CNC maintenance mechanic experience.
  • Proven ability to read blueprints and consistently hold tight tolerances.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, reliability, and problem-solving mindset for a lean environment.
