CNC Turning Technician — G‑Code/CAM (Automotive)

CNC Turning Technician GCode/CAM (Automotive)

Your craft shapes safer, more reliable vehicles. In this role, youll combine programming expertise with hands-on machining to produce automotive components that meet exacting specifications. You will program, set up, operate, and maintain CNC turning equipmentand support other machining centers when neededto keep quality high and throughput on pace.

How youll make an impact

Picture taking a new print, translating GD&T into a robust turning strategy, selecting the right tooling, and building a clean, efficient program. You verify it with a dry run and a meticulous first article, then monitor production to hold tolerance while fine-tuning feeds/speeds for tool life and cycle-time gains. Along the way, you document improvements and uphold standards common to the automotive industry.

Your responsibilities

  • Program CNC lathes; edit and optimize existing code for performance and quality.
  • Set up lathes and other machining centers: tooling, fixtures, workholding, and offsets.
  • Perform dry runs and first-article inspections prior to release.
  • Continuously refine process parameters to reduce cycle time and enhance tool longevity.
  • Run CNC equipment to produce precision parts aligned to production schedules.
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications accurately.
  • Monitor operations to maintain dimensional accuracy and consistency.
  • Conduct in-process inspections with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs, and other metrology devices.

What youll need

Required

  • 3+ years of CNC machining experience in a production environment.
  • Proven skill in reading blueprints, GD&T, and following work instructions.
  • G-code programming proficiency with CAM systems such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or Esprit.
  • Experience operating and setting up CNC lathes.
  • Understanding of tooling concepts, feeds/speeds, and materials (steel, aluminum, castings, etc.).

Preferred

  • Automotive or other high-precision manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 frameworks.
