AS9102 FAI & CMM Inspection Specialist (Aerospace)

At 6:00 AM you step onto the floor, grab your calibrated gauges, and open the day’s job travelers. By 6:15, you’re deep into a first article, translating complex engineering drawings into measurements that tell the story: everything within tolerance, finish pristine, features exactly to spec. By mid-morning, you’ve moved through in-process checks on a high-mix run of precision sheet metal assemblies, then wrapped up a final inspection that clears a critical order for shipment.

What you’ll do

• Execute first article, in-process, and final inspections on precision sheet metal components and assemblies.
• Verify dimensions, tolerances, and cosmetic criteria with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines).
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and job travelers with confidence and accuracy.
• Create complete, traceable records: inspection reports, nonconformance reports (NCRs), and AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation.
• Maintain calibration logs and ensure gauges and instruments are used and stored correctly.
• Support AS9100/NADCAP documentation requirements and assist with internal audits.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality to resolve issues, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Champion 5S and safety—keep the inspection area orderly and compliant, with PPE always in use.

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of quality inspection experience in precision sheet metal or aerospace manufacturing.
• Fluency in blueprint/technical drawing interpretation.
• Strength in metrology and inspection techniques; comfortable with hand tools and CMM operation.
• Clear documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with AS9100, NADCAP, and ISO quality systems.

Physical and work environment

• Stand for extended periods, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs.
• Frequent, detailed visual inspection of small components; regular hand-tool use.
• PPE required: safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection.
• Manufacturing and inspection setting with close interaction across production, engineering, and quality.

Schedule and compensation

• Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday (some flexibility may be required based on production needs).
• Hourly rate: $21 - $27 per hour.
