Journeyman Manual Machinist, Large-Part Pump Components

Your mission

In our Cumming, GA facility, you will own the setup and machining of large pump parts in a custom job-shop environment, partnering with engineers and shop teammates to deliver precision components on deadline.

Tools you'll command

  • Manual lathes and Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL)
  • Horizontal and vertical boring mills
  • ID/OD grinders and related manual equipment

What you'll do

  • Machine impellers, wear rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals to exact drawings
  • Translate blueprints and sketches into an efficient machining plan
  • Execute precision cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting operations
  • Verify critical dimensions with inspection instruments and document results
  • Evaluate and improve procedures for quality and throughput
  • Keep machines, tooling, and equipment in optimal working order
  • Comply with Hydro’s safety policies and procedures without exception
  • Troubleshoot with Engineers and fellow Machinists to resolve challenges

What you bring

  • Manual machining proficiency and strong shop math
  • Geometry know‑how for calculating angles, radii, and bolt circles
  • Understanding of feed rates and the effect of adjustments
  • Expert setup capability with jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps
  • Proven ability to machine 3–10 ft pump shafts to ±0.0005 using a steady rest
  • Meticulous attention to detail, dexterity, coordination, and control precision

Experience and education

  • 5+ years post-training as a machinist in an industrial setting machining LARGE PARTS on manual machines
  • Technical or vocational training in machining; Journeyman status preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
