Heavy Industrial Maintenance Mechanic — Hydraulics, Pneumatics & Conveyors

Step into the heartbeat of a world-class steel operation

Your 8-hour rotating shift begins with a quick safety huddle and gear check—hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and metatarsal boots on. The plant wakes up around you: hot, cold, wet, greasy, and always moving. A conveyor needs attention, a hydraulic line shows pressure variance, and a crane inspection is queued. Some tasks you’ll tackle solo with minimal supervision; others call for teaming up with fellow maintenance techs to keep equipment—and the mill—running continuously.

As a core member of our maintenance force at one of the world’s largest steel producers, you’ll install, maintain, repair, and operate a wide range of mechanical systems. You’ll use standard and specialized tools and, when needed, mobile equipment such as pendant and overhead cranes and forklifts to keep operating and service equipment at peak performance.

What you’ll take on

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair diverse mechanical systems and equipment: hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, power transmission, conveyors, cranes, and mobile equipment.
  • Jump in to assist with operating functions when needed to support production.
  • Work at heights and enter confined spaces when required (with proper procedures and permits).
  • Switch between working independently with minimal supervision and collaborating with other maintenance technicians.
  • Cover various areas of the plant where conditions can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.

What you bring

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must pass assessment test(s).
  • At least 1 year of manufacturing and/or industrial experience (including relevant military experience) or equivalent education. Background may include any of the following: hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, power transmission systems, welding, pipefitting, structural repair, or diesel mechanic.
  • Availability for 8-hour rotating shifts that include Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures at all times, including wearing required PPE: hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and boots with metatarsal protection.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance and strong self-direction to support operational success.

Tools and mobility

Expect to use a mix of standard and specialized tools, plus mobile equipment such as pendant and overhead cranes and forklifts as the job demands.
