Founding AI Engineer

About the Role

A fast-growing, seed-stage B2B SaaS startup in the productivity and AI communication space is looking for a Founding AI Engineer to join its founding team. You'll help build an AI-native email and meetings product — rethought from the ground up — that understands relationships, takes meeting notes in the background, and drafts context-aware follow-ups in your tone. This is a high-ownership, high-impact role where you'll shape both the technical foundation and the product direction from day one.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement LLM flows for context engineering, prompt design, and tool integrations to power intelligent email experiences.
• Build and optimize cloud infrastructure (GCP) for scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Develop and maintain a custom sync engine engineered for near-instant responsiveness.
• Execute database migrations, performance tuning, and product-focused changes based on highest-impact priorities.
• Iterate rapidly on prototypes and production features to surface relevant user actions and cut through inbox noise.
• Operate as a founding team member — own the most critical problems regardless of domain.
• Contribute to hiring and help grow the team thoughtfully.

What We're Looking For

Required (dealbreakers):

• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a software or AI engineer delivering production AI-enabled applications.
• Based in Stockholm, Sweden or willing to relocate and work on-site.
• Proven experience building AI-powered features using Large Language Models (LLMs), including context engineering and tool integration, in production.

Also required:

• Experience deploying AI workloads in production cloud environments with monitoring, reliability, and scalability.
• Experience with data pipelines and integrations to support AI features.
• Experience building and shipping production-grade full-stack web applications (frontend and backend) with emphasis on performance and scalability.
• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD practices for AI-enabled software.
• Experience with ML model development, training, evaluation, and deployment in production.

Nice to have:

• Strong portfolio of side projects demonstrating AI/ML or related engineering depth.
• Prior fast-paced startup experience or proven ability to operate with high ownership in a rapidly changing environment.
• Founding mentality: comfort with ambiguity, ultra-high ownership, and flexibility across domains.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $80,000 – $120,000 USD annually.
• Visa sponsorship available.

Location

On-site in Stockholm, Sweden. Candidates must be based in Stockholm or willing to relocate. Visa sponsorship is available for the right candidate.
