Composite and Metallic Stress Engineer

Is this you?

Do you enjoy turning equations into certifiable hardware? Can you move from a hand calc to a detailed FEA model and back again with ease? Are you excited by systems that span advanced payloads, electronic assemblies, ground and air vehicles, and orbital platforms?

What you'll tackle

  • Own stress analysis for metallic and composite structures from concept to production.
  • Plan and execute static and dynamic evaluations to validate strength, stiffness, and durability.
  • Develop finite element models in tools like MSC Patran, Nastran, FEMAP, or ANSYS; verify with classical analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and systems teams to drive model-based, parametric designs.
  • Write traceable substantiation reports for internal and external review.

What you need to succeed

  • Solid grounding in engineering principles and standard practices.
  • Basic proficiency with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Exposure to static and/or dynamic analysis methods.

What sets you apart

  • Hands-on FEA experience (Patran/Nastran, FEMAP, ANSYS).
  • Classical stress and “back-of-the-envelope” hand calculation skills.
  • Fluency in mechanical design concepts: parametric modeling, model-based definition, hardware selection, and manufacturing/production processes.
  • Ability to produce rigorous substantiation documentation.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense sectors; weld analysis familiarity is a plus.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or a closely related field, typically with 2+ years of relevant experience.

Language

English — read, write, speak.

Physical demands

  • Frequent walking, sitting, standing, and stair/step climbing.
  • Frequent repetitive hand, arm, and finger motions; fine dexterity required.
  • Rarely lift/carry up to 25 lbs.

Environment

  • Rare exposure to outdoor conditions (temperature extremes, sun, rain/snow).
  • Rare exposure to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials.
  • Rare exposure to loud noise.
