Dimensional Metrology Technician, Marine Manufacturing

Dimensional Metrology Technician, Marine Manufacturing

Duramax Marine LLC is a 100% Employee-Owned manufacturer based in Hiram, Ohio. As a long-standing contributor to the marine industry, we design and build products that elevate vessel performance for a rapidly evolving market. We’re adding a Dimensional Metrology Technician to our first-shift quality team.

A day in this role

When you arrive, you’ll review the day’s production schedule and priority jobs with Quality and Production. You’ll move from station to station, verifying critical dimensions on marine components, confirming prints and revision levels, and capturing results with precision. Mid-morning, you might shift to the FARO/CMM to validate complex geometries, then coordinate a few gages for external calibration. In the afternoon, you’ll mentor an operator on GD&T basics, help troubleshoot an out-of-tolerance condition, and document findings to feed root-cause and continuous improvement work. Throughout the day, you’ll keep our ISO 9001 processes front and center—accurate records, calibrated tools, safe practices.

What you’ll do

  • Conduct meticulous visual and dimensional inspections using approved tools to confirm conformance to specifications and standards.
  • Detect and document nonconformances; complete inspection records thoroughly and accurately.
  • Validate compliance to drawings, specs, work instructions, procedures, CTQs, revision levels, notes, and customer requirements.
  • Apply careful, consistent techniques to inspect flexible rubber components with the right touch and approach.
  • Independently use micrometers, calipers, ID mics, tape measures, dial indicators, go/no-go, feeler, and height gages; interpret results confidently.
  • Operate FARO or other CMM equipment; perform measurement validation on complex features.
  • Execute calibration activities and schedule outside calibrations with qualified suppliers; maintain equipment per procedures and timelines.
  • Handle routine maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and minor repairs of inspection and metrology equipment.
  • Coach technicians and production operators on inspection methods, blueprint/GD&T interpretation, and sound measurement practices.
  • Partner with production to resolve quality issues while supporting production pace and quality standards.
  • Support root cause investigations, corrective/preventive actions, scrap reduction efforts, and quality system improvements.
  • Assist during internal/external audits and uphold ISO 9001 requirements and company quality objectives.
  • Work safely, follow all policies, and contribute to company initiatives and other duties as needed.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training/certification in QA or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years in quality control/inspection within manufacturing preferred; rubber or plastic molding, tool calibration, or related experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on proficiency with measurement tools listed above; accurate interpretation and recording of results.
  • Strong print reading including dimensions, tolerances, decimals/fractions, CTQs, revision control, and GD&T symbols/callouts.
  • Familiarity with QMS and ISO 9001:2015 practices.
  • Basic experience with FARO Arm or similar CMM preferred.
  • Exposure to manual/CNC machining and familiarity with Fanuc controls, offsets, or basic adjustments preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain focus amid distractions, and meet throughput and quality expectations.
  • Comfort with hands-on manufacturing, openness to learning, and receptiveness to coaching.
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills; able to convey findings and recommendations to varied stakeholders.
  • Digital fluency with Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and related applications.
