Precision Pump Build Technician — Alsip, IL

Step into a role where your craftsmanship drives industrial productivity, efficiency, and sustainability. Based at our Alsip, IL facility, you’ll assemble mission‑critical pumps with exacting precision, keep production flowing, and contribute to continuous improvement every day.

A day in this role

You’ll start your shift at your bench, blueprint on the stand, calipers at the ready. You’ll fit components to tight tolerances (as small as 0.002), verify with micrometers and gauges, and fine‑tune test equipment to ensure every pump leaves performing to spec. You’ll document per Standard Work Instructions, jump into a quick “5 Whys” when something’s off, and help keep the cell clean, organized, and safe. When you see a safety risk, you speak up—because everyone goes home safe.

Schedule

• Monday–Friday, 7:30pm–4:00pm OR 4:00pm–12:30am
• Training begins on 1st shift

Compensation

• Starting pay will be $22.85 per hour plus $1.35 per hour shift premium for second shift.

Pay Range

Starting pay will be $21.85 per hour based on experience. This is a full-time, hourly position.

The pay range takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skills; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed pay range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Ingersoll Rand, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

What you’ll do

• Assemble small components using excellent manual dexterity.
• Set up and adjust testing equipment to sustain throughput and quality.
• Fit parts to close tolerances, adjust for proper operation, and follow Standard Work Instructions.
• Participate in 5 Whys problem solving and continuous improvement using IR Business Systems tools.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment and proactively report hazards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic qualifications

• 3+ years in a manufacturing environment
• 2+ years of assembly experience
• 2+ years using micrometers, gauges, meters, calipers, and similar precision tools
• 2+ years reading/interpreting blueprints, schematics, and written/verbal instructions
• 2+ years fitting parts to close tolerances (example: 0.002)

• Clear written and verbal communication; fluent in English
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving in technical, fast-paced settings

Preferences

• High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
• Soldering experience (a plus)

Work environment & physical demands

• Onsite industrial manufacturing role with exposure to noise, heat, cold, fumes, and chemicals
• Lift up to 50 lbs
• Kneel, bend, climb ladders, work in restricted spaces; walk and stand for extended periods
• Comfortable working at elevation (e.g., scissor lift)
