TIG Welder

Whelan Machine & Tool, an Ajax Defense company, builds precision components and assemblies for defense and commercial customers. We're hiring a TIG Welder to perform high-quality GTAW (TIG) welding on stainless steel and aluminum, plus other welding and fabrication, working from engineering drawings, weld symbols and approved welding procedures.

What you'll do

• TIG weld components and assemblies on stainless steel and aluminum; use MIG, flux-core or stick on carbon steel as assigned
• Read drawings, blueprints, weld symbols and welding procedure specifications (WPS)
• Fit up, tack and align parts using fixtures, clamps and measuring tools to hold tolerances
• Prep joints by cutting, grinding, beveling and cleaning, including plasma and oxy-fuel cutting
• Inspect your own welds, verify dimensions, and complete travelers and weld logs with material traceability
• Work safely: hot work, ventilation, lockout/tagout, required PPE, and a clean 5S work area

What you need

• High school diploma or GED
• 2+ years of welding experience in manufacturing or fabrication
• Proficiency in GTAW (TIG) welding on stainless steel and aluminum
• Ability to pass a company weld test and qualify to AWS D1.1 or the applicable customer spec
• Ability to read blueprints, weld symbols and WPS, and use measuring tools accurately
• Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (the job involves export-controlled technical data)

Nice to have

• Vocational or technical welding program and current AWS certifications
• Experience welding to military, aerospace or defense specs
• Forklift or overhead crane certification

Work is on the production floor with heat, sparks, fumes and noise. You'll need to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for the full shift.
