Surface Preparation and Topcoat Technician (Rail Vehicles)

Imagine your first week: you gear up on Monday at 5:30am, step onto a clean, organized paint line, and take a car shell from prep to primer to topcoat by Thursday afternoon. You work with teammates who care about quality and safety as much as you do, and you leave each day seeing tangible progress roll down the line.
Your focus
- Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 5:30am - 4:00pm
- Prep, prime, and topcoat light rail and passenger vehicle bodies.
- Hand, block, and mechanical sanding to specification.
- Precision masking and thorough cleaning for optimal adhesion.
- Primer and undercoat application for durable finishes.
- Equipment upkeep and basic maintenance.
- Support fellow painters to hit quality, safety, and delivery goals.
What you will need to succeed
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent education and experience in manufacturing or materials painting.
- At least 1 year of painting experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Comfort communicating in English with teammates, vendors, and partners.
- Ability to read and interpret straightforward instructions, memos, and technical documents.
- Math fluency in whole numbers, fractions, decimals, plus rate, ratio, percentage, and basic graph interpretation.
Physical aspects of the job
- Frequent walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Climbing stairs, steps, and ladders as part of normal work.
- Working on elevated platforms and performing overhead tasks.
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.

Compensation
Base rate range: $16.00/hr - $19.68/hr in Lexington, NC. Actual pay may be higher or lower based on budget and your experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
