Journeyman Commercial Door & Dock Technician

Shape safe, reliable access for businesses across your community

At Vortex Doors, we service and secure the places people work and shop. As a Journeyman Commercial Door & Dock Technician, you’ll tackle complex installs and repairs on doors, docks, and related hardware for commercial and industrial customers. If you bring 3+ years of industry experience, mechanical savvy, and pride in quality workmanship, you’ll feel right at home here.

A day in the life

You start your morning by reviewing your service schedule, loading your company truck, and heading to your first site. One stop might involve diagnosing a failed operator or replacing broken springs; the next could be configuring low-voltage access control and fine-tuning closers to meet code. Between calls, you document your work, communicate options with customers, and ensure every opening operates smoothly and safely.

What you’ll handle

  • Install, service, and troubleshoot commercial doors, dock equipment, and associated hardware using the right tools and techniques.
  • Diagnose and complete routine and complex repairs (springs, hinges, locks, electrical components). Interested in welding? We can train you.
  • Set up and adjust hardware such as locks, handles, closers, low-voltage devices, and access control systems.
  • Verify compliance with safety requirements and applicable building codes on every installation.
  • Deliver clear, professional customer service—explain findings, outline repair paths, and recommend cost-effective solutions.
  • Maintain accurate service records, from site notes to completion reports.
  • Perform quality checks so work meets Vortex’s uncompromising standards.
