L&W Recruiting, on behalf of a nationally recognized plaintiff‑side mesothelioma law firm, seeks a Trial Attorney to join the Tampa, FL office. This is an in‑office position; regular travel to other jurisdictions for depositions, hearings, and trials is required. Remote work will be considered only for candidates with direct plaintiffs mesothelioma experience and is subject to firm approval.
Position overview
- Manage and advance a docket of high‑stakes plaintiff asbestos/mesothelioma matters from intake through resolution, with primary responsibility for litigation strategy, client communication, and courtroom advocacy.
- Lead and participate in all phases of litigation, including fact investigation, discovery, depositions, motion practice, expert retention and preparation, hearings, arbitration, and jury trials.
- Develop case themes and trial strategies in collaboration with senior counsel, investigators, and medical experts to maximize case value and client outcomes.
- Prepare pleadings, briefs, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other court filings with accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare clients, lay witnesses, and experts for testimony; conduct examinations and cross‑examinations at depositions and trial.
- Manage caseload effectively, including calendaring, file organization, budget awareness, and meeting firm and client deadlines and metrics.
- Work constructively within a team of litigators and support staff; mentor more junior team members as appropriate.
Required qualifications
- Active license to practice law in Florida, or eligibility for reciprocity.
- Proven trial experience; first‑chair or significant second‑chair trial experience is preferred.
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills, including demonstrated motion practice and deposition experience.
- Experience handling emotionally sensitive matters and working directly with seriously ill clients and their families.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly for litigation matters and to maintain a primary in‑office presence in Tampa, FL.
Preferred qualifications
- Direct plaintiffs asbestos/mesothelioma litigation experience, including familiarity with exposure pathways, product identification, and coordination of medical and industry experts.
- Background in related high‑stakes plaintiff litigation such as personal injury, catastrophic injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, product liability, toxic tort, or complex civil litigation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, high‑value caseloads and to develop case strategy independently.
- Experience mentoring junior attorneys and contributing to a collaborative, trial‑ready practice culture.
