Lead the engineering behind Florida’s next generation of solar
You’ll act as the owner’s engineer for utility-scale solar projects—guiding third-party design partners, aligning cross-functional teams, and driving designs from concept through commissioning. This is a 12-month engagement based out of Juno Beach, FL (preferred). Remote work anywhere within Florida is welcome, with planned travel to Juno Beach about once per month.
A day in the role
Morning: review engineering submittals from external design firms and provide direction on PV layout, structural foundations, civil works, and electrical balance of plant. Midday: collaborate with environmental, procurement, transmission services, and project management stakeholders to unblock decisions in both early development and active construction. Afternoon: apply value engineering to optimize reliability, cost, and performance—ensuring the complete engineering design package is buildable, safe, and on schedule.
What you’ll own
- Oversee and coordinate third-party engineering contractors producing comprehensive solar project design packages.
- Shepherd projects across the full lifecycle—from early concept and scoping through construction support and final commissioning.
- Unify diverse stakeholders (environmental, procurement, transmission/interconnection, project management) across development and construction phases.
- Leverage value engineering methods to balance technical performance, reliability, and cost across electrical, structural, civil, and materials disciplines.
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Preference for experience steering schedules and budgets on major capital projects.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (required).
- Experience: 5+ years relevant experience preferred; outstanding candidates with fewer years may be considered.
- Domain experience: Utility-scale solar engineering and project management preferred.
- Also considered: DG/commercial solar; other power technologies (wind, BESS, combined cycle, nuclear, hydrogen), substations, and transmission; exceptional talent from adjacent industries (e.g., aerospace, civil, stormwater).
- Core strengths: communication, leadership, and disciplined project management.
