Mid-Level Systems Engineer
Make complex systems easier to understand, support, and use. In this Mid-Level Systems Engineer role, you’ll work hands-on with Linux infrastructure across multiple locations and collaborate closely with customer stakeholders. The appeal is in the practical improvements: a script that saves repetitive work, a clearer troubleshooting guide, or a configuration change that keeps a system reliable and secure.
What that looks like day to day
- Get close to the systems. Administer Linux environments, use the command line to investigate issues, and support daily operations.
- Simplify the routine. Develop Bash or Python scripts that reduce manual effort and make recurring tasks more consistent.
- Keep security part of the work. Maintain alignment with established security policies and agency standards throughout the system lifecycle.
- Connect the infrastructure. Perform basic Cisco switch configuration and manage containers using tools such as Docker, Podman, or containerd.
- Help the next person succeed. Write clear technical documentation that makes systems easier for teammates to maintain and troubleshoot.
Your foundation is strong Linux administration and command-line skills, Bash or Python scripting, basic Cisco switch familiarity, hands-on container experience, and clear technical communication. Windows administration, NetApp storage, and virtualization with vSphere or vCenter are welcome additions. Familiarity with Jira and Confluence will also help you collaborate with the team.
Experience and education
This role requires at least 7 years of relevant experience with a qualifying bachelor’s degree, or 12 years of relevant experience without a bachelor’s degree.
